Member of CIGRE NGN during the CIGRE conference in Paris 2024.

Welcome to become a member of the CIGRE Next Generation Network (NGN)!

The CIGRE Next Generation Network (NGN) is a network that enables young engineers to get to know CIGRE, facilitates participation in CIGRE working groups, and creates opportunities for personal and professional development.

What does membership in CIGRE NGN involve?
The purpose of CIGRE NGN is to encourage active membership that benefits both NGN members and CIGRE as a whole. Activities carried out within the network should reflect the needs and interests of NGN members. These may include study visits, courses, webinars, networking activities, or similar events. As a member, you help influence which activities are organised.

Another purpose of NGN is to support members in participating in CIGRE working groups, subject to approval by the working group chair. See active CIGRE working groups here.

Membership benefits
– Access to the latest technical information from CIGRE and to the journal Electra
– Opportunity to participate in CIGRE’s technical work and share experiences
– Opportunity to present at CIGRE Sessions and CIGRE Symposia

How is CIGRE NGN organised?
There is a board led by a Chair who convenes meetings and ensures sound operations and governance of the organisation. There is also a Secretary who documents and distributes meeting minutes to members and ensures proper administrative and financial functioning of the organisation.

The current Chair is Henrik Ekestam at Svenska kraftnät, and the Secretary is Andrea Bille Pettersson at Energiforsk.

Other NGN members contribute to the network’s strategic direction, effectiveness, and long-term sustainability through active participation in meetings and by prioritising issues and activities.

Who can become a member?
You must be a member of CIGRE to join. For students in the field, membership is free of charge. Anyone under 35 years of age or within the first five years of their career, as well as students and PhD candidates, is welcome to join CIGRE NGN. Se membership options here, and contact Susanne Stjernfeldt at Energiforsk if you have any questions.
